Even expensive, high-quality, designer clothing will fall apart if neglected or abused. Not only will your clothes last longer when cared for properly, but well-maintained clothing looks better, too, which means that investing in tasteful, classic styles will pay off in the long run. Here are some handy tips on how to take care of your clothes

Read the. label on your clothe:

Here is one crazy trick most people should know your clothing generally tells you exactly how to take care of it. Checking the garment tags is an easy way to figure out what you can and cannot do.

Follow the directions — especially the ones that tell you what not to do — and you’ll already have made delicate garment care a dozen times easier.

Learn to hand wash:

Some delicate fabrics do best when they’re hand-washed. Good hand washing is a simple but important skill.

Treat Stains Immediately :

Got a little too drunk and spilled some appetisers at a cocktail party? Never let a stain sit. As soon as possible, wet stains with plain water. Quick pre-treatment can make the difference between a short, effective hand-wash later and a permanent stain.

Soak the garment if stained:

By “soaking” we mean dipping the cloth into water and letting it sit for a while. A couple of hours to a whole day in room-temperature water will give whatever is staining the cloth plenty of time to weaken and break apart, making later treatments quicker and easier.

Choose the right place to dry clean your clothes:

Choosing the right place to dry clean your clothes is the key, do not experiment with new places when dealing with a pristine item.

Dry cleaning for Indian clothes :

For Indian clothes which usually have a lot of intricate embellishments, make sure that the pieces are dry-cleaned by a special technique where the ornamentation is covered with a net.

Opt for steam ironing :

Steam ironing outfits are the ideal way to avoid iron marks, lines and creases especially on delicate fabrics like silk jersey. Steaming with a professional steam machine is the best way to quickly remove wrinkles from delicate fabrics. Hold the steamer away from the fabric and allow the steam to remove wrinkles, not the wand itself.
Store woolen garments in air-tight bags:
Woolen garments, cashmere or silk knits must be dry cleaned first and then stored in transparent airtight plastic containers or bags.

Store in plastic or fabric covers:

Clothes that have embroidery tends to get tarnished or blacken over time. You could opt for plastic or fabric covers—the end-point for both is to keep dust, moisture and insects away.
Metallic fabrics, which have been a big trend for the past few seasons, should be covered in soft butter or tissue paper.

Leave them hanging:

Instead of hanging, your heavy Indian outfits such as lehengas and saris it is better to fold and store them.

Clothing storage:

Your expensive wardrobe needs to be stored in a clean, cool, dry, dark environment in order to protect it from UV damage, colour fading, discourage insect infestation and retard bacterial growth.
